E17 – What happens after egg retrieval?

Do you know what happens in the IVF lab after an egg retrieval? In today’s episode, Yaser Aldajani 👨‍⚕️, embryologist at #AdvancedFertilityCenterCancun, will talk about the procedure in the IVF laboratory after an egg retrieval is done.

Once the eggs are retrieved, they are carefully examined and prepared in the IVF lab by embryologists. The eggs are placed in a specialized culture medium that mimics the natural environment of the body.

If sperm is being used, the next step involves fertilizing the eggs, either through conventional insemination or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), where a single sperm is directly injected into the egg.

Over the next few days, the fertilized eggs are closely monitored as they develop into embryos. The lab’s advanced technology helps ensure optimal conditions for their growth.

By day 5 or 6, the embryos may reach the blastocyst stage, at which point they can be transferred to the uterus or frozen for future use.
