Blastocyst biopsy

E16 – Blastocyst biopsy

What is a blastocyst biopsy? Why is it a necessary procedure in a PGT-A test? In today’s episode, Yaser Aldajani 👨‍⚕️, embryologist at #AdvancedFertilityCenterCancun, will talk about the Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidies and the procedure of a blastocyst biopsy.

¿What is a blastocyst biopsy?

This is a procedure in in vitro fertilization (IVF), allowing for the testing of embryos before implantation. At the blastocyst stage—around five to six days after fertilization—embryologists remove a few cells from the outer layer of the embryo. This biopsy helps assess the embryo’s genetic health through preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidies (PGT-A), ensuring only healthy embryos are selected for transfer.

By identifying potential genetic abnormalities, the blastocyst biopsy can significantly improve the chances of a successful pregnancy and reduce the risk of miscarriage.

This procedure is often recommended for couples with a history of genetic disorders or recurrent pregnancy loss, offering greater precision in their IVF journey.
